DebtCon1 and IIEL’s own Anna Gelpern mentioned in April 26 and April 27, 2016 Financial Times podcasts on sovereign bankruptcy.
April 26 Podcast: “When a country goes bankrupt…[i]n the first episode of a four part series on sovereign bankruptcy, the FT’s Robin Wigglesworth looks at how and when countries fall into distress, and examines whether Italy’s debts are sustainable.”
April 27 Podcast: “When a country defaults…[i]n the second of a four episode series, the FT’s Robin Wigglesworth examines what happened when Argentina defaulted on $80bn of its bonds in 2001, at the time the biggest sovereign default in history.”
On January 21st and 22nd, IIEL hosted the inaugural interdisciplinary Sovereign Debt Research and Management Conference (“DebtCon1”). The annual conference, which was organized by Professors Anna Gelpern of Georgetown Law and Mitu Gulati of Duke Law, brought together global law and social science scholars and policy makers.
The conference featured cutting-edge scholarship from global scholars, and was geared towards informing debt policy and market practice, as well as shaping policy-relevant research. The conference agenda and materials are available here. Read the full story here and here.
