IIEL Fellowship Program

The annual IIEL Fellows Program brings Georgetown J.D., LL.M. and doctoral students together with scholars, policy-makers, and practitioners to discuss new policy developments in International Economic Law.

The Institute of International Economic Law’s (IIEL) Fellows may attend an invitation-only speaker series with thought leaders from government, academia, international organizations, and the private bar. Recent speakers have hailed from a wide variety of organizations, including the European Commission, Atlantic Council, Mexican Ministry of the Economy, ICAP, IMF, USTR, multinational law firms, and universities in both the United States and Europe.

Fellows also have the opportunity to attend IIEL conferences and events throughout their time on campus, offering unparalleled opportunities for further learning and networking. Fellows are encouraged to enroll in the International Law & Policy Colloquium for an even deeper academic experience. Each year, one Fellow is named a John H. Jackson Memorial Scholar.

Apply to the IIEL Fellowship

The Institute of International Economic Law (IIEL) Fellows Program accepts applications from current Georgetown Law students interested in being named IIEL Fellows at the beginning of the fall semester each year. Learn more about the application process and the Fellowship here.

Applicants must submit a resume; a Fellowship Interest Form; and 1-2 page narrative statement indicating their interest in the program, what they might be able to contribute to IIEL, their professional or career goals, and a delineation of courses previously taken in international economic law.

Applications should be emailed as a single PDF to lawiiel@georgetown.edu with the subject “IIEL Fellowship Application, 2021-2022” by no later than 5:00 pm EDT on October 1, 2021. All timely applications will be reviewed by the IIEL Fellowship Selection Committee.

International Economic Law (IEL) Colloquium Series

Each spring, our Fellows are invited to attend the Institute’s weekly IEL Colloquia. The Colloquium Series offers students the opportunity to network with key policymakers and thought leaders in government or industry.

Students interested in receiving credit for the Colloquia may enroll in the two-credit International Economic Law and Policy course offered each spring semester.

Our academic opportunities give students the chance to engage with our “four pillars”—fintech and financial regulation, international trade, international tax, and sovereign debt.
